ANTI-RACISM CODE OF CONDUCT

OPEN SKY is committed to being/becoming an anti-racist organisation.

Racism, prejudice and discriminatory behaviour exist in our society and therefore exists in our sector and can exist in our organisation. Systemic racism perpetuates harmful ideology and behaviours.

Anti-racist action is everyone’s responsibility and we will embed anti-racist practice into every aspect of our work.

The purpose of this Code is to make everyone aware that racism will not be tolerated, condoned or ignored. Everyone who comes into contact with Open Sky is expected to adhere to this code of conduct.

  • Everyone is valued and welcome at Open Sky. We have a collective responsibility to make Open Sky a welcoming space where everyone can feel they belong.

  • We condemn the use of racist language, racial slurs and racist behaviour; this includes and is not limited to anti-Asian, anti-Black, anti-Roma, antisemitism, Islamophobia, exclusion, minoritizing, stereotyping  and racialised homophobia, misogyny, misandry, masculinity bias, and Transphobia.

  • It’s everyone’s responsibility to interrupt and challenge racist thinking and behaviour by actively learning about racism and oppression – the history and current contexts.

  • Open Sky’s anti-racism work will be properly resourced with people, finance, time, space and materials.  Open Sky will regularly review its conduct, procedures and policies and implement training and learning to remain actively anti-racist. Where possible policies, procedures and learning will be shared publicly.

  • Open Sky commits to listen and treat seriously any complaints made or issues raised - this includes and is not limited to microaggressions and racist behaviour, gesture and language and racial slurs.

  • Open Sky understands that reporting racism can be intimidating. We will make the process of reporting clear and straightforward, investigate objectively, respect confidentiality where possible and resource independent investigation where necessary.

  • This organisation has a duty to protect victims and individuals who have made a report and, where racism is found to have occurred, take appropriate action. Individuals who witness and make a report or participate in good faith in any investigation into racism should not suffer any form of reprisal or victimisation as a result. Victims and individuals who wish to make a report can do so anonymously.

 Reporting procedure:

  • All employees, governance, collaborators and partners will be sent a virtual link to this document.

  • Those wishing to make an anonymous report of racism may do so on the following link which provides an optional guide of information to include in such reports: Insert Link.

  • Those employees, governance, collaborators or partners with specific access needs can use the following link which includes the same information and opportunity to report in a variety of accessible forms: Insert Link.

  • All and any reports made by any employee, advisory board member, collaborator or partner will be discussed by the company leadership and advisory board and the appropriate remedial action agreed.

  • If the report was anonymous the reporter will be able to read about the agreed actions in response to their report in the advisory board minutes posted here and accessible versions here.

  • If the report was made by an identified individual a leadership member or member of the advisory board will respond directly in writing to the individual to inform of them of remedial action being taken.

  • If the report is made by or about an advisory board member it will be discussed by remaining leadership and advisory members in their absence and then remedial actions required relayed to them post-facto.

  • In instances where the individual reporting is unsatisfied with Open Sky’s we will refer the issue to an independent mediator for resolution. INSERT MEDIATOR.
