Limited Edition: 150 available

Created as part of Open Sky’s “ART not ADS” campaign, that commissions independent artists to create affordable, limited-edition, art collectibles inspired by films we distribute for free.

The artwork from Ioana Curelea is a vivid collage bursting with shrimp, prawns, and sea creatures layered over the scientific text featured in the film titled “Gender benders at the beach: Endocrine disruption in marine and estuarine organisms.” Combining humour, science, and social commentary, the piece reimagines nature’s fluidity and transformation through a riot of colour and texture.

  • Ioana (she/her), is a queer Eastern European set and costume designer based in London. She works across theatre and film, building visual worlds that are rooted in politics, psychology, and lived experience. Her work often circles themes like power, identity, displacement, and survival. She tends to gravitate toward projects that amplify marginalised voices and challenge conventional forms.

“Working on the set of Shrimp was such a warm, wholesome experience with such a diverse team working together as a community really infused my design process and eventually the final design for the tote bags. The mixed media and variety of images I’ve collaged analogue, painstakingly cutting out every little leg – you genuinely forget how many little bits shrimp have! – was very much done ceremoniously as a celebration of love, diversity and queerness. Who says you can’t fight bigots and be chic?”
